Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11

The James 1:27 Project
The project is a joint venture between Don and Betsy Meeker in Oklahoma and Meshach and Elizabeth Mutua in Machakos, Kenya.

The James 1:27 project is named for the same scripture "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." It is registered with the Kenyan government and has a board of 5 members in Machakos. 100% of donations go to Meshach and the board to distribute in the most effective ways to children (and families) supported by the project. The future goal is to get the project to a point where it is a self-sustaining.

Don and Betsy work stateside, raising awareness and funds for the James 1:27 project. They also take trips to Kenya to support and encourage the Mutuas and the other volunteers!

The ultimate goal of this project is to work towards the prevention of another generation of orphans and widows (caused mainly from the AIDS epidemic) through education and the sharing of God's love.

James 1:27 works in practical ways to help people. They provide assistance and uniforms for orphans to attend school, provide transportation to medical appointments, teach people gardening skills, give people seeds to plant to grow food for themselves and much more!! They have even built homes for people!

We are very excited to provide support to James 1:27  through the profits of The Orange Bird Shop!!
If you would like to support them directly or sponsor a child, their contact person is Kathi Ritter at
