Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11

DW's Craft Loft

I always love seeing spaces where people create. It gives you some insight into what is inspiring to them as people and creators. I thought it would be fun to share the space where some of the creations for The Orange Bird Shop are born!

When we moved to Indiana, our new house was smaller than our old one, but there was defined studio area  space for me. {YAY!!} As a bonus, there was a spiral staircase leading up to it! It is an open area where I can still feel like I am part of the family or supervise the kids, but my mess is confined and out of the way!

So, let's begin the tour at the top of the stairs!

One of my favorite things has been trying to decorate and get the things I need on a budget. My "sewing table" is a patio table left in the back yard by the former tenants. I cleaned her up and brought her in! The perfect blue chair was a steal at an antique store.

I love having colorful things all around me...sweet crochet flowers waiting to be made into pins and hair clips to go into the shop, my mug from Frances with Hershey's kisses {for when I need a crafting break snack!} and my jar with vintage buttons {from Bearly Makin' It Antiques that was a score from Whatever Craft Weekend!} are all things that bring a smile to my face!!

The yellow chair in the corner was the answer to a prayer. I was talking to God about the craft loft and told him I had envisioned a chair up in the corner where I could sit and have quiet time to read, pray or just dream. {I think He cares about the silly little desires of our hearts!} I was not at all shocked, but totally delighted, when He crossed my path with this yellow beauty {my favorite color} for $7 at a thrift store in another town over from mine. He thought of everything...it has wheels, fit in my SUV and was light weight and narrow enough for me and my 11 year old daughter to navigate up the spiral stairs! Thank you, Lord! {The pillow with the heart is a special gift from Birdie! You can read about that sweet gift, here!}

On the opposite side of the room is my desk, with my inspiration board and the pinterest inspired storage solution for my fabric!

This toolbox holds lots of crafting tools and was a thrift store score from my Wichita days. It had a previous life as a tool box for someone who worked at Boeing. I'm sure the big manly mechanic, who used it first, would laugh if he knew what his toolbox was being used for now!
{Fabric scissors, a rotary cutter, a cutting mat, etc.}

I got the idea for fabric storage by modifying this storage solution I found on pinterest.
{The link on the pin is good if you want to see the rest of her craft room! It is amazing!}

We are all about "thinking outside our nests" with The Orange Bird...so this globe {another thrift store find} is a perfect reminder of our bigger goal of spreading God's love around the world! I also love thinking about it sitting in Mr. or Ms. L. Millers room C23, in a school somewhere, with little hands spinning it and wondering about other parts of the world.

A desk that a former tenant left in the loft has become command central. Though it may look chaotic to some, to me it is inspiring to see colorful and meaningful things everywhere. Necklaces, waiting to be bought, hang next to flower pins with colorful office supplies below! {Happy!}

One of my favorite things is this mug rug from Knitty Bitties. It makes me smile because it is so bright and cheerful and also because it makes me think of the amazing time I had at Whatever Craft Weekend {where I got it}! Andrea, who is the woman behind the Knitty Bitties Shop,  is creative, amazing and running her first half-marathon these days! {Whew!} You should go check out her blog and her shop!
{Don't you just love becoming acquainted with awesome people on the internets?!}

More inspiration...the tag with the two sets of feet remind me that Birdie and I are to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our business! The scripture picture reminds me that my prayers can move and shake the world through God answering them!! The blue travel case was part of a set I found at the Goodwill and holds pretty packaging supplies for The Orange Bird Shop!

So, there it is! My happy place! I hope you enjoyed this little tour!I think I will go create something, now! I'm feeling very inspired and I hope you are, too! If this is your first visit to The Orange Bird, Birdie and I would love to have you hang out and read about the mission behind The Orange Bird and our Shop
