Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11

Love Like He Loves. {The James 1:27 Project}

Birdie and I have figured out that we need to hold our own plans loosely and be obedient to God's Spirit moving in us. When God laid the idea for The Orange Bird Shop on our hearts, we thought we would support a cause and move on to the next one, but God had other plans. We accomplished our goal of raising money to help The James 1:27 Project in Machakos, Kenya build Francesca's house and yet, something in both of us cannot move on to the next cause. We felt God wanting us to rest here and raise additional money with all our profits from The Orange Bird Shop for a water cistern system for her home so that she wouldn't have to walk a half a mile to the nearest water source. Honestly, I'm happy to support them long after that task is complete.

The James 1:27 Project has captured our hearts. They are helping widows and orphans, as the scripture reference says, with a broad scope vision. They are caring for the immediate needs of these women and children while teaching them and preparing them for a better future with health education, income opportunities, schooling, self-sustaining agriculture opportunities, spiritual discipleship, truly the list goes on and on. It is loving people at its best!

Birdie and I have found our hearts are intertwined with these people...it is hard to explain how you can love people you have never met, people that are half way around the globe but, see for yourself...meet our sister, Irene. Her life has been touched by The James 1:27 Project and she has touched our hearts with her story.

God's ways are not our ways. God's ways allow two crafty housewives in America to be the instruments He uses to answer the prayer of a widowed HIV positive mother of 3 boys, in Kenya, Africa and God's ways makes her our sister. God's ways blow our ways out of the water. Sweet Birdie gave me precious gift as a reminder of our goal to...

You will never go wrong following that advice. -Niki {DW}
