Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11

Craft Room Inspiration

We sat in Birdie's craft room, drinking coffee and contemplating the next season of life. I was feeling a shift taking place in my heart (and the hearts of my husband and children) that could be leading to mission work. Birdie had been getting requests for the hats and other things she was making but she was feeling like there should be a bigger purpose to it all. Our children were pretty much out of the baby stage and both of us felt like it was high time for a new adventure. Most of all, we both had a mutual love for our father, God, who made us sisters in His faith family. We wanted to move forward into the next seasons of our lives with a purpose of spreading God's love to others.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others,as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11

The answer began to unfold as we looked at our gifts. Birdie is a prolific creator of beautiful things (something she would never say about herself!) and loves to bring happiness to people with the things she makes. I like to make things, too, but I also love blogging and the challenge of figuring out this techie internet stuff. An idea began to take shape. We could make an online store with a blog that would go along with it. The store's profits could be used to cover our expenses and generate money to donate to a mission or charity. We could work from home and still be the wives and mothers that we need to be and at the same time take advantage of the opportunity to "use our gifts to serve others as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms." We knew that we could play a role in offering God's grace to others in the form of clean water for Africa or cooking stoves for Haitians or medicine for the sick....the possibilities were endless!

Now, what to name our store? I knew it had to have something to do with Birds. After all, I had called my friend "Birdie" for years! We loved the fact that God used a dove to symbolize his Holy Spirit! And we knew that this endeavor would help us" think outside our nests"! Birdie knew that the color orange represented "change" which seemed fitting as we were changing the way we thinking about serving God and the fact that the causes we supported would change as the Spirit led!  So there we had it...The Orange Bird.

We hope that you love this idea as much as we do and will join us in our mission of spreading God's love to others by doing what is within our power to meet their needs!
